Casa Mariol, Syrah Reserva 2017

Casa Mariol is a third generation family winery, founded in 1945. It is situated in Batea, Terra Alta, a small region tucked away in the south of Catalonia. The dry Mediterranean climate, calcareous soils and combination of two prevailing winds, the dry north (El Cierzo) and damp southeast (El Garbí), provide optimal conditions for growing grapes and producing amazing wine. Syrah Reserva 2017 is a real cracker. Taken from organic vines, the grapes were harvested and then aged for 2 years in oak and 1 year in bottle prior to release. The nose is packed full of flavours of ripe cherries, bramble and fig jam. The palate is rich yet silky, with well-integrated tannins, a good level of acidity and further notes of black pepper, sage, cocoa and creamy vanilla. A great wine to pair with roast lamb or your next BBQ.
